Research Notebooks 4: Quantum Psi and Yoga

Quantum Psi and Yoga

Yoga means "union" and means the overcoming of divisions (of mind and body).

Yoga has spread widely in the West and is practiced for both personal well-being and individual growth.

Quantum Psi can also allow a new look at the practice of Raja Yoga, that is mental Yoga.

We have analyzed the basic work, the aphorisms on Yoga by Patanjali. This work represents one of the central points of the practice of Yoga and is considered practically unanimous both in the West and in the East as the list of the central points of this discipline.

We have found that there are not many translations of these aphorisms in free distribution in Italian, so we wanted to provide directly.

Note: You can see the aphorisms in English (uncommented) athttp://www.theosociety.org/pasadena/patanjal/patanyog.htm#book1

Taken from Patanjali's Aphorisms:

Book III, Supernatural Powers of the Yoga Practitioner - The Siddhi

We report on this site only this one of Patranjali's four books because for many people it is the most fascinating, as it deals with the so-called "supernatural powers" of Yoga.

With Quantum Psi we can give a complete explanation, also developing new operational techniques.

This book for the discerning reader who knows the subject thoroughly also has much to do with the concepts of hypnosis; however, ancient hypnosis in its original formulation lacked the vocabulary necessary to explain these phenomena completely. Quantum Psi includes this technique in a modern vision.

And we note that hypnosis in the West has often been linked to supernormal phenomena.

Let us now comment on each aphorism.

We would like to point out that each of our comments is based on lived experiences, either in class or experimentally, trying to replicate the elements described here with Quantum Psi methods.

1. Concentration (Dharana) is the fixation on a particular point in space.

This first Sutra is very familiar to the practitioner of our techniques. Modern hypnosis was born from Braid's idea to concentrate the gaze on a particular point in space.

The one described is a BASIC TECHNIQUE.

And precisely in this sense Western hypnosis can be considered the closest to this type of Eastern practice.

Note: Fixation is also a technique used in Quantum Psi. In Quantum Psi every spatio-temporal coordinate can be the object of concentration but also of micro-concentration with the creation of a mental idea in situ also called "activator".

2. In this concentration (Dharana) the continuous flow of similar mental processes is called Dhyana or meditation.

3. When only the object of meditation shines in the mind, without even the concept of the self that is meditating this state is called Samadhi.

This is a central idea in Quantum Psi. The concept is the overcoming of the this/that dyad, observer/observed. It is difficult to explain the state in words as words are a tool of the left hemisphere which is relaxed with practice.

In addition to hypnotic practice, the state of Samadhi can also be obtained for short periods of time with other purposes not directed towards enlightenment through the so-called "psi concentration".

It is in fact a state that can be obtained in two ways:

- macro - through hypnotic techniques

- micro - for a few moments, but useful to obtain quick effects of change.

In Quantum psi, for example, we work on overcoming the this-that dyad. This linguistic work leads to short moments of Samadhi useful for change.

4. The three together on the same object constitute Samyama.

Dharana + Dhyana + Samadhi = Samyana

5. With the mastery of this (Samyama), the light of knowledge (Prajna) appears.

Obviously, however, the highest goal is the objective state. Change can occur as we come into contact with the mind. It is an inner transformation. The goal of Path A of Quantum Psychology is the creation of a different and more complete inner attitude.

6. Samyama must be practiced in stages.

Back in the last century, a technique called "fractionation" was born. The concept is that through splitting the path we get better results. It can also be related to the concept of ultradian cycles, whereby the activity of the mind proceeding in cycles is appropriate to split the effort. The idea is also similar to the concept of states of hypnosis and also to the consideration that it is impossible to immediately reach a total state.

7. These three experiences are more internal processes than the previous ones.

Of the eight steps of Raja Yoga concentration meditation and Samadhi are internal and require practice.

8. These experiences must be looked at as external in relation to the higher states (Nirvija)

Objective consciousness is in Quantum Psi the higher state. This aphorism also suggests the difficulty of reaching such a state with only combinations of these tools. Some students sometimes want to reach states of elevation without passing through the deconceptualization of path A. It is impossible. The B way is to get closer but only the A way allows actually higher states of consciousness. Otherwise one remains in the games of attachment and power.

9. The stopping of the fluctuations and the appearance of the latencies of the stopping state, which occur at every moment when the calm mind becomes "white," are the mutations of the central calm state.

This is a complex aphorism. It refers to "stopping points." The central point between the fluctuations of the mind (the thoughts) is in fact called in quantum psi "point of enlightenment" because working on it we can reach the states of deconceptualization (= absence of thoughts)

10. The continuity of the mind (in the previous state) is ensured by latent impressions

To many who practice these techniques it feels like they are "losing control". In reality, the mind is always in control. You just have to let go of what is happening.

11. The diminishing of attention to everything around and the development of concentration on the single point is called Samadhi-parinama or mutation of the concentrated mind.

This is a technical description of the central state. If we notice we are talking about a progressive process. Even before the global experience, it is possible to experience a series of states technically defined as "periodic". Technically we speak of "development" of the concentration of the point.

12. Here (in Samadhi) again (in the state of concentration) the past and present modifications being similar, Ekagrata-parinama, or mutation of the stabilized state of the mind, is reached.

This is one of the most amazing impressions for the practitioner: the absence of time. By meditating one experiences successive levels of awareness. So apparently the past is different from the present. In the final state there is no time and therefore the impressions are identical. At this point you are in a state of timelessness.

13. In this manner the three changes, viz, of the essential attributes or characteristics, of temporal phenomena, and of the Bhutas and Indriyas states (i.e., all known phenomena) are explained.

Practically at this point the practitioner arrives at global understanding. At the point of de-conceptualization global understanding is present. This is due to the fact that from the central point, point 12 explains time, point 11 space. Man's perception of the world is in fact due to the interaction of the properties of what he perceives in relation to the sensory receptors of the mind.

14. That which continues its existence through the various (characteristic) moments, namely, the quiescent, i.e., the past, the manifest, i.e., the present, and the non-manifest (but remaining a powerful force), i.e., the future, is the substratum (or part characterized by the object).

This is a fundamental concept in Quantum Psychology, as time is a mental construction. Indeed, time is an important spike in understanding our paradigm.

15. The change of sequence (of features) is the cause of differences in mutations.

Our mind constructs reality according to sequences. In other<words this aphorism suggests that if we change the order we change reality. This is a very powerful technique as it operates on the most basic coordinates of reference.

16. Knowledge of the past and future can be obtained through Samyama on the three Parinamas (changes).

But actually direct intuition is also possible, the assumption of the objective state in which time does not exist and therefore there are no causes.

17. The word, the implied object and the related idea produce a unique impression. If Samyana is practiced on each of them separately, the knowledge of the meaning of the sounds produced by each living being can be obtained.

The concept of this aphorism is deeper than it appears and can only be understood after the practice of a series of techniques based on sounds, which are also very important in India (mantras). Through these techniques in fact the three elements indicated above are split or connected to a single element of the tradic mind. This allows the creation of virtual realities and is also the basis of "psi concentration". The last part also means that in reality the senses can be sharpened to the point of understanding through the reptilian brain the base and non-verbal meaning of sounds.

18. Through the awareness of latent impressions, one can have knowledge of the previous birth.

By accessing the unconscious through regressive techniques we can have various experiences. It is a series of experimental and personally enriching experiences.

19. (Practicing Samyana) on notions, one can gain knowledge of other minds.

This aphorism has a double level and is also related to the practices of identification with other people. Instead, the simplest interpretation is that the mind is built from notions. Quantum Psi can be a modeling tool. Modeling is gathering notions of a person in order to understand them and thus gain knowledge of their mind.

20. The basis of the notion remains unknown as it is not the purpose of the Yogin's work (observation).

In any case our work goes in another direction (see the concept of way A of Quantum Psychology).

21. When the perception of the body is suppressed by practicing Samyama on its visual aspect, the disappearance of the body happens through its going beyond the sphere of perception of the eye.

This is the technique called illusion that we often demonstrate in the introductory classes. We can create virtual realities by operating on each sense, especially since each sense is connected to the traidic mind. In fact, this aphorism shows that we can construct a visual reality that does not exist.

22. With this process we can also operate on the other senses

ditto (for some this aphorism is an interpolation and in some texts the subsequent numbering is different - in our opinion, and according to the Quantum Psi knowledge we have, it is still logical and completes the previous one perfectly)

23. The action is of two types; the first, that which is accompanied by anticipation of consequences. The second, which is without anticipation of consequences. By practicing concentration (Samyana) in regard to these types of action (karma), the ascetic can attain knowledge, such as that of the time of his death.

The one described here is clearly the technique of time progression. In our mind we already have a plan (a scenario) of how our life is going to develop. Through the Quantum psi technique we can reach a level where this kind of thinking is concretized and understood consciously. A rule of Quantum Psi is in fact "from the point of deconceptualization you can always understand the point of conceptualization".

24. Through Samyama on friendship and other similar virtues one obtains strength in these.

This concept is closely linked to the concept of the triadic mind. With hypnotic techniques we can impact the reactions of the mammalian brain and develop "rapport" or other qualities starting from the INSIDE. In our experiences this is what we call "building a new emotional reality".

25. (Through Samyama) on (physical) strength, one can acquire the strength of elephants and more.

Samyana is the Indian name for the Quantum Psi process and also for hypnotic processes. Often in our lessons we show how in hypnosis can be obtained even increases in muscle strength and more.

26. With perfect contemplation of the light of knowledge of the highest sense perception, one obtains knowledge of subtle things, near and far.

This is a so-called experimental application (distance vision).

27. (Practicing Samyama) On the sun (the point of the body known as the solar entrance) one can gain knowledge of the cosmic region.

The concept here is on the basic archetypes. The sun for example.

28. (Practicing Samyama) On the moon (the lunar entrance) one can gain knowledge of the position of the stars.

The moon follows.

29. (Practicing Samyama) On the polar star, one can learn about the movements of the stars.

Actually, our body is also a miniature universe and the previous aphorisms also refer to the knowledge of the body.

30. (Practicing Samyama) On the solar plexus, one can have knowledge of the composition of the body.

This technique can be applied for internal healing by visulaizing the various organs of the body in hypnosis.

31. (Practicing Samyama) On the trachea, hunger and thirst can be conquered.

Physical endurance can be greatly enhanced.

32. Calmness is achieved by Samyama on the bronchial tube.

In fact, anxiety is closely linked to respiratory phenomena.

33. (Practicing Samyama) On the light of the crown, perfect beings can be observed.

There is also another version of this aphorism. The concept is related to a technique also called "ascent to the higher self".

34. From the knowledge called Pratibha (intuition), everything becomes known.

We know much more than we think. Our conscious mind conceptualizes only a small part of reality. The rest is unconscious and can be attained in such a way.

35. (Practicing Samyama) on the heart we gain knowledge of the mind.

The heart is the center of every vital process. Establishing oneself in this region brings about a global understanding of the whole.

36. The experience (of pleasure or pain) arises from a conception that does not distinguish between two extremely different entities, that is, Buddhisattva and Purusha. Such experience exists because of something else (i.e. Purusha). This is the way by which through Samyama on Purusha (which supersedes all experiences and even their complete cessation), we can gain knowledge about Purusha.

In other words, We can also go to a metaposition beyond the position of pleasure and pain.

37. From here (from the knowledge of Purusha) comes Pratibha (prescience), Sravana (supernormal power of hearing), Vedana (supernormal power of sight), Adarsa (supernormal power of touch), Asvada (supernormal power of taste) and Varta (supernormal power of smell).

At this point we are open to leaving our senses open to greater perception

38. They (these powers) are impediments to Samadhi, but are ( looked upon as) acquisitions in the normal fluctuating state of the mind.

Obviously these powers are in danger of deviating from the ultimate quest of Quantum Psychology, but they are still remarkable levels of attainment.

39. When the cause of the impediments is diminished and the movements of the mind are known, the mind can enter another body.

De-conceptualization is the high road to new developments. This sutra means that by increasing flexibility (loosening the knots), our mind can easily understand the psychology of another person (literally "enter another person").

40. By developing the life force (of life) called Udana, the body can withstand immersion in water or mud, embers, and one can exit the body at will.

These are various experimental experiences, some of which may also be useful in motivational seminars.

41. By mastering the life force called Samana, one can control and regulate internal and external heat.

The development of Quantum Psi techniques allows access to natural resources for self-healing, and also to change body temperature.

42. With the Samyama on the relationship between akasa and the power of listening, one can realize the divine sense of hearing.

This allows, for example, so-called "channeling" experiences.

43. By practicing Samyama on the relationship between body and akasa and concentrating on the lightness of cotton, one can pass through the sky.

This is a poetic description of the so-called "higher self" meditation, characterized by feelings of lightness.

44. When we can keep out the external modifications of the mind, these can be understood.... Thanks to Samyama on this, the veil over enlightenment (of the Boddhisattva) is removed.

Some levels of hypnosis lead "beyond the body". All who practice them report similar experiences.

45. With Samyama on gross matter, its essential character, its subtle essence, its inherence and objectivity, which are the five forms of the Bhota or elements, one can achieve mastery over these.

By analyzing the basic habits of the mind one can modify them. We can then construct ourselves in the most appropriate manner.

46. From here one develops power over the elements and other physical acquisitions. Indestructibility also occurs.

The mention is on the "body of light".

47. Perfection of the body consists of beauty, grace, strength and adamantine hardness.

The concept is linked to improvements related to the practice of disciplines related to "Quantum Psychology. Among these disciplines is "presence". This sutra alludes to how to recognize a person practicing presence, as these are characteristics of it

48. With Samyama on receptivity one can acquire mastery over the essential character, the sense of the Ego, the inherent qualities of objectivity of the five organs.

Our personality is a construction. This Sutra alludes to the possibility of taking control of it. After all, our Quantum Psi work started with the search for new ways to develop the consciousness and understand the personality.

49. From here come the powers of rapid movement of the mind, action of the organs independent of the body, and mastery over Pradhana, the primordial cause.

There is an inner level "before the senses". With Quantum psi we can reach it.

50. A person who clearly understands the distinction between Buddhi and Purusha is given supremacy over all beings and omniscience.

To know is power.

51. By renouncing this (Visoka), liberation comes with the destruction of negative seeds.

In quantum psychology we talk about the only state that is not a state. As long as there is a state there is an experience

52. When invited by celestial beings, this invitation should not be accepted nor cause vanity because it involves the possibility of undesirable consequences.

Always referred to channeling. In fact, it is necessary to be careful with certain practices that can bring in contact with negative parts.

53. Knowledge of self and non-self comes from the practice of Sayama on the moment and its sequence.

Actually this is also the way to create parallel realities...

54. When the species, temporal character and position of two otherwise indiscernible things is acquired they can be differentiated through this knowledge.

This refers to the inner reality

55. The knowledge of discernment is Taraka or intuitional, is inclusive of all things and all words, and has no sequence.

The knowledge spoken of is intuitional and not in words. The Sutra mentions the objective state, where everything is present at the same time.

56. (Regardless of whether discriminative discernment has been achieved or not) When equality has been achieved between Buddhisattva and Purusha in their purity, then liberation takes place.

This is the attainment of a state of non-influence. Liberation or enlightenment is a central concept of Quantum psychology which brings it closer to the objective state.
